Happy Veteran's Day!!! MY THANKS!! and some giveaway info!!!

First of all I would like to take this time so say "THANK YOU!!" to all our country's veteran!!
We owe you soooooo much for the freedoms that we sometimes take for granted!!! I went to a Veteran's day celebration today at Taryn's school... SCC... and it was soooo great to see the youngsters of our community taking the time to learn about what the veteran of the country has done for them... and the celebration that they took the time to do was sooo great!! Taryn's school sang songs... the high school students put together a program to say their thanks!!! I took a video for Papa to see... he couldn't get off work. (He is a veteran, of the Vietnam conflict) and Taryn had invited him... so he gets to view the video of her singing (and the rest of the grade school) "Remember" . It was very touching!! My dad was a veteran of the Korean war. Dad has been gone now for 30 years this last March. So it means a lot to me to see them celebrating all the armed forces!!! My brother was in the Army too. My step dad was in the Army also. SO you can see how dear this celebration was to me!! When they honored the fallen soldiers... I CRIED TOO!!! That was such a touching tribute!!!! So when you see a veteran... don't forget to tell them "THANK YOU" too. :D

Taryn has had a rough five days now....(She almost missed the celebration at school today... She is suffering with hives...) The dear sweet little one has them on the inside! She just gets all jumpy and starts crying!!! I can't imagine not being able to itch them!!! And being little... well just not FAIR!! Scoti is trying to find out what she is allergic too... but it is a slow process. We have started with the laundry soap... and the soap at school (hand washing). I just hope for her sake that we can figure it out soon!!! Scoti called doc again today... (Taryn went to docs on Monday... that is when we found out about them... and is taking benedryl for the itching effect. But the benedryl doesn't seem to be working very good.) Her teacher called Scoti... to come give her some more medicine... but because of day care... Scoti couldn't take all the kids... so she called me. And I took her medicine. She was having a rough time of it... but went to music class. I came home to get my camera for the program.... got back to school... and she was still itching!!! Her teacher said she was leaning against the wall... sliding up and down... trying to itch herself!!! We took her home to mom... (the whole time... Taryn was crying that she wanted to sing!!) When Scoti talked to doc... they can't see her again until tomorrow. Scoti called ER... the ER nurse told her she would just have to wait to see the doc tomorrow. I don't like that idea... neither does Scoti... but what can you do??? I am hoping the doc gives her some Steroids tomorrow!!! She shouldn't have to live like that!!! (My youngest had hives, she started at 6 mos. and didn't stop til she was 19!!! I know it is no fun to have a child in pain!!) I hope Taryn gets to where she is better!!! I will post more as we find out.

I would love to post some pics of what I am working on tomorrow... but it is a wedding gift... so it will have to wait until after the wedding is over!!! I will post some then!!

Debi,
Here's the recipe for the gingerbread dough. Have fun!!!

Ornamental Gingerbread Dough

3 T shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1 tsp. baking soda
3/4 cup water
3 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. each: ground cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg

Beat shortening and sugar together until light and fluffy. Stir in molasses. Mix dry ingredients together. Stir them into sugar mixture and gradually add water. Dough will be very stiff. Refrigerate overnight.

Heat oven to 350ยบ. Cut dough into three pieces. Roll one piece at a time (between two sheets of waxed paper) to a thickness of about 1/4 ". Cut out desired shapes and patterns. *** If you are planning to hang these ornaments, poke holes in the shapes now with a straw or toothpick.*** Bake for about 20 minutes. Allow to cool and harden for several hours or overnight.

Finished ornaments can be painted, sealed, or dipped in melted wax. The possibilities are endless!
